Re: Jewelry Television

Since I don't watch it too much anymore, I don't have too much to say about it. But I am always interested in reading what others have to say.

I would like to be able to post about all the jewelry channels.

Re: Jewelry Television

Didn't Triple D,Cheryl,Scottie Tissue,Mandy and the rest of OAPs say YEARS AGO( at least 8 years ago) that tanzanite was almost mined out and we better buy some before it's all gone.Gee, now it seems like they have TONS of it cheap and AAA color. Kinda sucks for all of the customers who paid alot more for lighter color tanzanite.

Been watching a lot of JTV, Perry's Estate Jewelry, Gem Shopping Network, and Direct Shopping Network, I call it "my jewlery aversion therapy." I watch so much that I almost gag on it. It works!!! I'm much more discriminating in my jewelry purchases. I did come close to popping for the 10-11mm Natural Pink Akoya Pearl Studs for $155. on JTV the other day, but I resisted!! Plus my guess is that they are probably dyed fresh water!
Now I just need to break my ebay habit. I snagged a FABULOUS pair of 10mm round Vintage 14K Blue Zircon earrings, now just have to decide if I want to convert them to posts. Wish I could stop!

Well I have been off for a while and I see nothing has changed... Luckly for me I can't get any cable channels anymore... and so that means I don't have to switch (out of habit) to JTV... and I have been saving alot of money that way!

Re: Jewelry Television

I honestly haven't stopped for more than a minute on JTV for over a month now. Every time I flip over it's Nikki, and I'm sorry ... but I can't stand her. I never thought I'd be that person who changes the channel because I didn't like the host ... but JTV has become that for me. Nikki and Goober (Scott) are two I can't stomach for any period of time.

At QVC, I don't like Jane Treacy, but I can watch a jewelry show if she is hosting. Nikki and Scott ... I just can't do it.

Re: Jewelry Television

I've been watching only to see what has been happening in the jewerly trade... the only thing that they are selling is tanzanite and rubies (fissure filled)... I'm not excited about buying that... but I do watch their auctions... matter of fact I think they are upset with the because I did slip in to get things for $.01 and some things for $5. (LOL) I had a ball! Dawn and one of the co-owners came on with a stone that they found then didn't hear of it any more... funny

Me too ... that is, when we were still getting the signal. The sale of gemstones outside of their practical uses bores me to tears anyway, and I never could find the kind of personalities it attracts intriguing for long enough to even feign an interest.

However, I don't know if these are the guys you're talking about, but you can find Robert Chambers and Shawn Leflar working together again on the "Coin Vault" through a joint venture with CSN. You can watch online or catch rebroadcasts on the ION network early Monday mornings. It airs just before Cutlery Corner show with Todd Boone and Tom O'Dell from 2 to 5am.

Kevin Hite still hosts "The Sports Room" through DirectTV, and you can see for yourself how well they're all doing. Ya know, it's funny how I can so appreciate watching the shows these guys produce, when the last thing on earth I would ever do is to buy the trash they're peddling.

Yeah, most of the hosts migrated over to SlopNBC, but then their "Coin Shop" segment mysteriously disappeared and so did Chambers and Lelfar. Thing is, I always knew they'd resurface. I mean, you can't keep a winner down, and The Coin Vault was the sole reason the Shop At Home network didn't fold years earlier.

Re: Jewelry Television

What exactly is a "fissure filled ruby" and is the treatment the reason that they can sell it so cheap because the treatment cheapens it in some way? I think the stones are beautiful, but so are YAG's... if you know what I mean.
I know Emeralds are "oiled" to fill in the inclusions and most gems are treated in some way, but to sell a scrumptious ruby for the pittance that they do gives me pause.

ok here is the skinny on fissure filled rubies
1. take very cracked ruby could just be a tiny piece of one
2. pour melted red glass into fissures
3.cool
4. cut and polish
5. sell for a bunch of money to suckers

they arent stable one bump they break
going from one extreme temp to another they break
trying to get them set they break

plus the industry standards dont say how much corundum has to be in the stone for it to be called a ruby ... sooooooooooooo it could be 99.9% glass and you could still sell it as fissure filled ruby..

Re: Jewelry Television

I was actually watching Dawn yesterday, talk about industry standards and treatments done to gems. She said 99.999999 percent of gemstones are treated in some way. She then went on to talk about fissure filled rubies. She said they have always sold them, the industry has always sold them and these are the same rubies we have all been buying for years ... it's just now they disclose the treatment ... because they assumed we all knew.

Assumed we all knew?!? Excuse me?!? This woman needs to be pulled off the air!

If they are the same stones, why are they a fraction of the cost, of inferior stones sold years ago? I got so angry I had to shut the tv off! Hmpf!

Yeah, there ought to be a law, but then, there IS a universal constant among the human herd known as "suckers", and since you can't protect people from themselves (even though despots are trying), you can't expect to outlaw opportunists from building amoral institutions on them. Walmart is a perfect example. You see, no one forces anybody to do anything. It's premised on freedom of individual choice, therefore, the only crime is committed by ... you guessed it ... the sucker.

tuczontanz...OMG! now I need to kick the habit completely!!!! From JTV to ebay! I am addicted!!! This is really sad! The only difference between me and a drug/alcohol addict is that I get to see my addiction!!!!! I'm done!!!! I wonder if I can block ebay like I could block JTV from my channels! This is ridiculous!!!! I need counseling! I don't shop in stores but when it comes to gemstones set/unset I go CRAZY!!!!! I found a cats eye emerald on ebay and I now have to find someone who can tell me if it is real... Maybe we should open up a board about ebay?! LOL the only good thing is that you can mark whether the seller is good at sending what he says he has! At least you can warn another person!... Ok for all of you who are going to church Sunday "Pray for Me!" I need to quit!!!

Re: Jewelry Television

They have been running those repeats for a while now...ever since they fired Cheryl and Nicole. The only problem is that a lot of the stuff is already sold out, even though they edit the shows to take out the one only items. Those poor operators take so much abuse (I know one of them) from angry customers, it's terrible! Sometimes they put several shows together to fill the time slot, even with different hosts....I used to love JTV and they are the reason I'm getting my GG soon, but I sure do miss the good old days....remember Show Ball in the corner?? Back then it was real and it was fun and there was quality and trust.

Re: Jewelry Television

Who is this Mister Rodgers? It's sad when people don't know what they are doing... and just wanna show their name... anyway I watch now if I'm not on ebay... but I gotta stop... I love my gemstones... I love my rings... As far as the people on JTV I can't watch anymore... Tommy is the only person I like watching... and he is the only one that seems genuine and I know he's not because it is his job to sell what JTV has... however, because of him I found out about the trapiche emerald... So "Thank You!" Tommy! Like I said in the other post I don't buy from the other host since Nicole and Cheryl have left... I do play on their auctions... but not from tv... learned to much about what they do from these boards...I use to buy the kits ALOT!!! And use to get upset with myself if I did not have the money to buy one... but since reading the post kinda just look and surf the tv until they are finish selling them. Mostly I use JTV to go to sleep... that's what I use to do when Cheryl was on... Listen to her talk about the gemstones and actually remember what she said then when she would go off I would get up and turn off the tv... DAGGGGG I really miss her... it's not the same since she has left!

Re: Jewelry Television

I made my first order with JTV in a few years about a week ago. Misty was showing chrome diopside (probably my fave gemstone right now), and I ordered a pair of earrings (Christmas gift). They arrived and are perfection ... can't wait to see my friends face light up when she opens the package!

I will say, I HATE their packaging. I would never gift anything using the packaging they send their products out in. No way Jose! Women don't want a cardboard box ... Cheap and tacky!
