JTV Auctions

I know a lot of people on here have sworn off JTV, but has anyone checked out the auctions lately? There's a LOT of items going for near double of what they're sold for on the website. I'd chalk that up to overzealous bidders, but even I can't justify getting so caught up in an auction that I'd bid double what's it worth days before the auction ended.

Anyone else notice this trend?

Re: JTV Auctions

I would be VERY CAREFUL!

It doesn't cost JTV anything to bid on their own merchandise to get the price to go up.

People do it on E-bay all the time!

I haven't bid on a thing! lol Someone I know used to until she noticed things were going for outrageous prices and got suspicious. I know people on eBay try to shill bid, but I don't think eBay actually makes anymore money if a bid goes up so they actually (try to) make sure that doesn't happen. JTV on the other hand........

Actually, I ment that the sellers on e-bay are the ones bidding on their own items, under a different account, to get the bidding to go higher......that's what I think JTV could be doing.

Re: JTV Auctions

I've never had any luck on their auctions. I did notice that the prices were higher than they should be, so I gave up. I also noticed that when I did bid, they were supposed to notifiy me if I was outbid so that I could bid again, but that never happened. I also noticed that when I would go into my account to check on my bidding, nothing was ever there. Very suspicious.

that;s quite interesting.

in 2001 and 2002 when I actually did participate in auctions, you did get a notification that you had been out bid

their software sounds broken

But, I gave up in 2002 because the place was overrun with ebay pirates. They would outbid you just to resell on ebay. It was impossible to keep ahead of them and so it stopped being worth it.

When you see 3 of the same names over and over, it sort of gets obvious.

Also, I wouldn't put it past jtv or any other vendors from pulling the fake outbid

Summer time or so, one of the dish networks got rousted by the FTC for having people place fake bids. I can't remember where I read the article nor the specific name of the company but they had their relatives call in and put in fake bids.

That company was forced to close down. So it's not one of the ones operating now. BUt they were only ever on dish

I believe you are right. DOn't know if they have a specific connection from jtv but sure it wouldn't suprise me.

as I noted in the other post, it was obvious even back to 2002 that you couldn't outbid an ebayer and they seemed to work in teams

why I would ever buy from ebay though is a mystery,

Pay another premium on top of that you are already paying the home shopping network? no thanks

And there's about no doubt that they are selling their stuff outta the jtv parcels too

KEEP IT

Yeah, I've had that happen to me on eBay before. Very annoying and dishonest.

I've bid on things on JTV before and had problems with their notification system as well. They "forgot" to tell me I won on two items and reposted them. When I called to ask them what was up, the customer care rep couldn't give me an answer. Not surprisingly, the items I won but "lost" went for more than what I won them for. I gave up messing with their auctions after that.

Re: JTV Auctions

With eBay I use a sniper and put in highest price I am willing to pay, forget name of it, free for up to 3 items a week, that way I do not drive the price of the item up. Course, way you cannot see 'who is bidding on eBay' shilling is probably even better now. As for JTV Auctions, I bid on one once long ago, won it, do not remember what or price, do remember it was just awful and don't think you can send auction things back either. I just stay away from those now. They have let so many to, wonder if they have anyone to bid up the items? Good idea to wait until last second to bid, if you really want it.

WOW Gem!

You bring up an interesting point. No wonder there are so many items on the auctions...if you can't return them, that makes all kind of sense. Also, that sniping works best if you are the only one that's bid. Then you know that some mysterious person didn't jack up the price on you.

24 - Glad I could help with sniping, do not know if JTV is allowing any sniping tool or not (google:) - eBay does, rather than chase something UP&UP&UP - I just figure OK, I would spend X$ on whatever (never jewelery as far as I can remember, ain't far:( ) AND they do notify you when you are outbid - might be auctionstealerDOT com - works great. I know if you want 'an item' you bid, it goes up, you bid again, up:( - so, Auctionstealer (let me look:) Yes, that is it (but think only for eBay and one other??? - again, GOOGLE) - it is free - I will put in my highest BID and it bids for me last 10 seconds - either I win or I don't and if I don't then; I saved money for something I probably did NOT want and know another will come along. I won't bid on JTV auctions because of the no return, chipped?, scratched,? oh too bad - stuck with a bad stone, jewelry, could have a stone fixed, but could you sell it for total of payment, plus fixing? - I do not even look at the auctions.
I remember someone long ago did bid on auctions, got piece of junk, then bought same size from regular side and would return the 'auction piece', guess he had to tell someone what he was doing. I don't look and would not think of doing that. I figure they have markings of some kind anyway AND, I do not want to go to jail.

But Auctionstealer dot com is great for eBay and DO remember if you lose (good idea to make it like 122.33 some kind of cents after bid as that cent or two or ? can make the difference of a win) there more than likely will be another along shortly -make sure feedback is good for what they are selling before bidding at all, for kind of thing you want to buy!

Re: JTV Auctions

I did "play" the auctions on JTV when I first started collecting my gemstones... but it had to be for a specific item that I wanted. I got 2 pariba tourmalines and two trapiche emeralds. I think I paid relatively low prices for both because I would wait till they were getting ready to close the auction on that price... my jeweler loved my trapiche it was over 3 carats can't remember the correct amount but it made a beautiful mothers ring for me and he found nothing wrong with it... lucky me! I think that is the only thing that I would look for now... The pariba was was so small for the amount that I paid... that had I not had the large amount of faith in JTV I could have gotten one bigger in size if I would have researched to find someone else!.. But I believed! And I still belive that they will get their act together! Hopefully!

jtv did use to have this tool back in the early 2000s so can't imagine why they would get rid of it

Bumping up this old thread. Anyone here noticing that the auctions at JTV are still going up in price? I know some people get excited when they're bidding, but I can't imagine anyone being dumb enough to buy a 10kt 1.00 carat diamond ring that's listed for $99 on the site for $188!

What will they think of next? Oh yeah I know, makeup from gemstones, lol! Read that blog, funny I tell ya funny :) Its called Derma something. I am really disspappointed in Jennifer Miller stooping that low but they probably made her do it because that is in her background experience.

Anyone (I am sure you have:) notice the % off each day; 1 day only; gem kits; NOT for me. As for Tanzanite that they show the gemmy on TV . YUCK; I was stupid (as usual) took a chance on an unheated stone; pix looked GREAT; stone was SO light as appraiser said and said was a VVS stone; sent it back next day. I do NOT need it, do not want it and know the appraiser is 'relative' to a buyer - does not mean not good at what she does; but are we sure? The photo of the stone was dark blue (sapph) what I got was SO light and had been marked down about 1k - someone else must have bought/sent back.
I know there is a new CEO there - but JUNK is what they are selling now; though bet p rices are down - Oh well, stupid me:(

GemLover, I am so sorry about you and the auction I bidded on several from them recently and all of the stones were beautiful!!!! Also, I got them for a tanzanite ring 1.10 ctw I think BEAUTIFUL for $150.00 I then went back to see if they were selling the same ring again and the starting bid was $250.00... now mind you my starting bid was only only $5.00 I have gotten so many compliments on my ring that other people are saying they need to go and get tanzanite... not from JTV of course because I stole this one in the auction. Also, I mentioned that I did get a trapiche emerald from them on auction as well... the lapidarian that I used to make my ring loved the stone... so you can get great things from them... now the other stones I got from them like the cats eyed alexandrite... is beautiful as well and it is a color change stone... got that for a $1.00! Can you believe it?! I haven't been back on because I went stupid on ebay!...LOL ... I have to admit I have a problem... and they say that is your first step... mad now because I don't have any money to get on and bid!!!!! I bidded on cats eye emerald and now I am waiting for GemGeek to get her GIA so she can tell me if its real! ...
